Diani (Ukunda, UKA) is served by scheduled domestic carriers and safari operators flying small turboprops and light aircraft. There are no wide-body jets and no direct international arrivals — everything routes through a Kenyan gateway first.

The four routes that matter, in order of how most travellers use them, are Nairobi JKIA → Diani, Nairobi Wilson → Diani, Mombasa → Diani, and the many safari airstrips → (via Wilson) → Diani. The carriers you will see are Jambojet (from JKIA), Safarilink and Skyward Express (from Wilson), plus Mombasa Air Safari, 748 Air Services and private charter operators.

Diani is a daylight airport, so all flights are timed for daytime hours. Frequency is demand-driven and seasonal:

• High season (roughly July–October and mid-December–January): the most frequent flights and best availability — but also the fastest to sell out and the priciest. Book well ahead.
• Low / green season: fewer daily frequencies; some routes thin out. Check current timetables carefully and build in buffer if connecting.

Because published times shift with the season, treat any schedule you see as indicative until confirmed on the airline’s own site at the time of booking. Morning and early-afternoon departures dominate.

Fares vary by carrier, season, how far ahead you book and how full the small aircraft are. As an indicative guide for one-way domestic tickets:

Wilson safari-carrier fares tend to sit above the low-cost JKIA fare because they use smaller aircraft and serve safari demand. The cheapest fares appear when you book early and travel in the green season.

The booking itself is simple once you know the one trick — search the right name.

• Searching “Diani” instead of UKA/Ukunda — the number-one reason people think there are “no flights.”
• Booking into the wrong Nairobi airport — landing internationally at JKIA but booking the Diani leg from Wilson (or vice-versa) forces a stressful cross-city dash.
• Assuming a direct international flight exists — it doesn’t; you must connect via JKIA or Mombasa.
• Ignoring baggage limits — turning up with a hard suitcase for a small-aircraft safari leg.
• Cutting the connection too fine — same-day international-to-Diani connections need a real buffer.

There are no direct international flights to Diani — the airport has no customs or immigration. International visitors take one of two paths:

• Via Nairobi (JKIA): clear immigration at JKIA, then connect on a domestic flight to Diani (Jambojet from JKIA, or transfer to Wilson for Safarilink/Skyward).
• Via Mombasa (MBA): where your international or regional flight lands at Mombasa, then a short hop or road transfer to Diani.

Beyond the scheduled routes, Diani is well used by charter and private aircraft — for direct safari routing that skips the Wilson connection, for group and family travel on your own schedule, or when scheduled seats are sold out in peak season. Operators can position aircraft from Mombasa or Nairobi. Charter makes most sense for time-sensitive itineraries, larger groups splitting the cost, or direct bush-to-beach routing.

Diani’s most powerful use is finishing a safari on the beach. Scheduled safari journeys almost always route through Nairobi Wilson: e.g. Maasai Mara airstrip → Wilson → Diani.
